It's only Tuesday, and I'm already stressed out.
My boss sends me an e-mail today and asks me, "You forwarded this case file two months after you were supposed to. Can you tell me why is that?"
Ooops! Busted! So what did I answer, you ask? The truth: I said it was irresponsible disregard on my part and that I had no valid excuse to support it. Her response? Thank you!
Knowing her, I can safely assume that she is relieved that I was brutally honest and not trying to make up stuff such as how overwhelmed I am with work, so many chores and duties to tackle at the same time, covering shifts for others who are out on sick leave, and trying to meet weekly deadlines. I knew that I didn't have to reiterate all that to her, because she already knows that. Besides, one honest answer puts finality on the story. What could she say? Please describe your carelessness?
I think she was relieved that I was sincere and that she would gladly convey my response to the finger pointer in the office. What? You thought my boss had stumbled upon this by herself? Please.....there's always someone pointing the finger, scoring brownie points so she can ask for time off during the holidays. Yep, I knew you knew someone like that.
